With the September 2025 issue, World Literature Today goes all in for The Art of the Review, devoting the entire issue to answering the question: Does cultural critique matter in the age of the algorithm? From a variety of angles, nineteen writers examine the art of reviewing fiction, movies, poetry, children’s lit, and translations. The issue also includes some classic reviews from the magazine’s pages, plus an expanded book review section featuring nearly three dozen reviews, with new books by Shokoofeh Azar, Abdulrazak Gurnah, Carlos Labbé, Banu Mushtaq, Yoko Tawada, Madeleine Thien, and Ocean Vuong among the highlights.
